Yeniseisk is the oldest city on Yenisei, the first Russian fortress based by Cossacks. Many buildings of the city which are of historical and art value are taken under protection of the state.
The image of Yeniseisk differs in a surprising originality – a combination of eclecticism of the 19th century and ancient estates in style of the Siberian baroque. Especially Yeniseisk is famous for Orthodox churches and monasteries. There are stone churches and masterpieces of wooden architecture here.
In the city, small by the sizes, there are more than hundred monuments of culture and architecture. Yeniseisk deservedly takes the place in the federal list of the historical cities of Russia.
